Next Generation Initiative
What is the Next Generation Initiative?

1. What is NGI?
The Next Generation Initiative (NGI) is an initiative of the Synod of the Mid-
Atlantic to revitalize African American congregations within the Synod. It
aims to address significant issues such as racism and poverty, with the goal
of breathing new life into churches and building vibrant, lasting
communities.
2. What will NGI do?
NGI will systematically address the unique challenges facing African
American congregations and invest in the development of Black clergy and
lay leadership. It will create a foundation for thriving, vibrant African
American congregations that contribute significantly to their communities
and the wider church.
3. How will NGI function?
NGI will function by creating support systems for Black leaders, investing in
resources for the care of Black congregations, and fostering community
engagement to ensure their sustainability and vitality. It will work with
various partners, including the Office of the General Assembly (OGA), the
Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA), the Foundation, Mission Engagement
Services (MES), and the Board of Pensions (BOP).
